Aromatic Spam and Perilla Leaf Steamed Egg
Steamed Egg with Spam and Perilla Leaves, Infused with Fragrance
Eggs are a beloved staple in our household! My children get a bit restless without them daily, so we always keep a generous supply. While they enjoy simple fried eggs, I like to switch things up with rolled omelets or steamed eggs. This time, I added Spam and perilla leaves, plus a secret ingredient (?), which resulted in an even smoother texture and richer flavor. Even my daughter, who usually isn’t a fan of steamed eggs, devoured this one completely! It makes any parent’s heart swell with pride when the kids eat enthusiastically. Soft, fragrant, and incredibly easy to make – this steamed egg is a winner for tonight’s dinner!
Ingredients
- 5 Eggs
- 1/4 can Spam
- A little Green Onion
- 5 Perilla Leaves
- 100ml Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Crack 5 eggs into a clean bowl. Gently whisk them to break the yolks and remove any stringy bits (chalazae). Ensure the eggs are smoothly beaten, as this step is crucial for a tender texture.
Step 2
Finely dice the Spam. Briefly blanch it in hot water to remove excess oil, then add it to the beaten eggs. Thinly slice the perilla leaves and finely chop the green onion, then add them to the egg mixture. Stir everything together well. (Tip: For extra depth of flavor, consider adding a pinch of minced garlic or salted shrimp.)
Step 3
Pour the egg mixture into a microwave-safe dish. Cover it with plastic wrap and poke a few small holes with a toothpick. Microwave on high for about 5-7 minutes, or until the egg is completely set. (Tip: Cooking time may vary depending on your microwave’s wattage. Insert a skewer; if it comes out clean, the egg is cooked through.)
