Aromatic Basil Pesto Cream Spaghetti
Tired of ordinary cream pasta? Try adding fresh basil pesto! This recipe creates a pasta with a completely new flavor by blending the richness of creamy sauce with the vibrant aroma of basil, making it a delightful and easy-to-follow dish for everyone.
Ingredients- 50g long spaghetti pasta
- 1 Tbsp basil pesto
- 1 shallot
- 1 Brussels sprout
- 1 button mushroom
- 1/4 onion
- 100ml heavy cream
- 100ml milk
- 20g butter
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the shallot and Brussels sprout. These two ingredients might cook at a different pace compared to other vegetables, so it’s best to blanch them slightly before sautéing with the rest. Blanch them in boiling water for about 1 minute, then rinse under cold water.
Step 2
Wash and prepare the remaining vegetables: the button mushroom and onion. Slice them into bite-sized pieces. Mince the garlic clove by pressing it with the side of a knife. Having all your ingredients prepped like this will make the cooking process much smoother.
Step 3
Melt the 20g of butter in a pan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté gently to release its aroma. Be careful not to burn the garlic; letting it infuse its subtle fragrance into the butter is key.
Step 4
Once the garlic is fragrant, add all the prepared shallots, Brussels sprouts, button mushrooms, and onions to the pan. Sauté over medium heat until the vegetables become slightly translucent. Season with about 1/4 Tbsp of salt. If you are using unsalted butter, you might want to add a little more salt to achieve the desired flavor.
Step 5
When the vegetables are sufficiently sautéed, add 1 Tbsp of all-purpose flour and cook for about another minute, stirring with the vegetables. Sautéing the flour with the vegetables helps to thicken the sauce later.
Step 6
Next, pour in the 100ml of heavy cream and 100ml of milk. Stir gently over low heat and bring to a simmer. It’s important to mix smoothly to prevent any lumps from forming in the sauce.
Step 7
Once the sauce begins to simmer, add the cooked long spaghetti pasta. For long pasta, it’s best to follow the cooking time indicated on the package, as it can vary by brand. Don’t forget to add a little salt to the boiling water for the pasta to give it flavor. Drain the pasta and add it directly to the sauce pan, mixing well.
Step 8
Finally, stir in 1 Tbsp of basil pesto and mix everything together until the pasta and sauce are well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. You can adjust the amount of basil pesto to your preference; feel free to add more if you like a stronger basil flavor. Once everything is nicely blended, your delicious basil pesto cream spaghetti is ready!
