Ingredients- 1/2 Apple (washed and prepared)
- 6 sheets Rice paper
- 3 Tbsp Brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon powder
- 4 Tbsp Sunflower seeds
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for your Apple Honey Rice Rolls by washing and measuring them. You can choose to leave the apple peels on or remove them, as per your preference. For an extra nutty flavor, lightly toasting the sunflower seeds beforehand is a great idea.
Step 2
Thinly slice the apple. You can use a peeler or a knife to julienne the apple into very fine strips. Cutting them too thick might cause the rice paper to tear or the filling to become unevenly distributed, so aim for delicate, thread-like pieces.
Step 3
In a mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon powder.
Step 4
Gently mix the apples with the brown sugar and cinnamon. The brown sugar will start to meld with the apple’s natural moisture, creating a light syrup that enhances the apple’s flavor beautifully.
Step 5
Prepare a shallow dish with lukewarm water. Dip one sheet of rice paper into the water for about 15-20 seconds until it becomes pliable. Carefully remove it, allowing any excess water to drip off. Be careful not to soak it for too long, as it can become fragile and tear easily.
Step 6
Place the softened rice paper onto a clean, damp surface like a cutting board. Spoon a moderate amount of the apple filling into the center of the rice paper. Avoid overfilling, as this can make it difficult to roll and may cause the wrapper to burst.
Step 7
Fold the sides of the rice paper inwards to enclose the filling, then tightly roll it up like a spring roll or a burrito. To seal the edge, lightly moisten the overlapping end with water and press gently to ensure it stays shut.
Step 8
Place the rolled rice paper with the seam side facing upwards. This helps to keep the roll intact and prevents the seam from opening while cooking.
Step 9
Lightly grease a non-stick pan with a bit of oil and place the prepared rice rolls into the pan. Cook over medium-low heat for about 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until the rice paper turns a beautiful golden brown and the filling is heated through. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
Step 10
Pro Tip: If you put too much filling inside, the rice paper might burst! For the best appearance, use a moderate amount of apple filling. While a burst roll is still delicious, it won’t look as neat. Sprinkle with sunflower seeds and sesame seeds after cooking for an extra touch of texture and flavor!
