Antioxidant Powerhouse! Easy Homemade Aronia Berry Jam Recipe
Healthy & Delicious Aronia Berry Jam: A Beginner-Friendly Recipe
I received a generous gift of fresh aronia berries and decided to try making homemade jam for the first time. This recipe is perfect for preserving that beautiful harvest and enjoying a healthy, delicious spread on toast or yogurt.
Ingredients- 2 cups fresh aronia berries (approx. 200g)
- 1 to 2 ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup to 1 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, remove the stems from all the fresh aronia berries. Rinse them thoroughly, then place them in a colander to drain off excess water. It’s important to ensure they are well-drained, as remaining moisture can make the jam too thin.
Step 2
In a blender, combine the 2 cups of aronia berries, 1 banana, and 1/2 cup of sugar. If you prefer a sweeter jam, feel free to increase the sugar up to 1 cup. Alternatively, for a more natural sweetness without adding extra sugar, using 2 bananas is a great option. (Note: Using only 1/2 cup of sugar might make the jam less sweet for children’s palates.)
Step 3
Blend all the ingredients until smooth. Since fresh aronia berries can be difficult to mash, pre-blending them makes the jam-making process much easier. Pour the blended mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium heat. Stir continuously to prevent sticking, which is crucial for a smooth jam.
Step 4
Once the jam has thickened to your desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool completely. Transfer the cooled jam into clean, sterilized glass jars and store them in the refrigerator. This homemade aronia jam is wonderful spread on toast, mixed into yogurt, or used as a topping for ice cream.
