Air Fryer Soy Sauce Chicken (Sweet & Savory)
Our Family Favorite! Easy Air Fryer Soy Sauce Chicken Recipe
Introducing a crispy and moist air fryer soy sauce chicken recipe that everyone from kids to adults will love. My daughter, who only ever wanted fried chicken, asked for this chicken every day after trying it! It’s a popular favorite that you can easily make at home with simple ingredients.
Chicken Ingredients
- 500-600g chicken, cut for stir-fry or stew
- Milk (for removing gamey odor and tenderizing meat)
Special Soy Sauce Marinade Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1 pinch herb salt
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/3 Tbsp ginger powder
- 5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1 pinch herb salt
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/3 Tbsp ginger powder
- 5 Tbsp soy sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the chicken that has been cut for stir-fry or stew. If you don’t have this cut, chicken wings or drumettes work perfectly fine as well. Choose the cut you prefer.
Step 2
Rinse the prepared chicken once under running water. Then, make several slits with a knife all over the chicken. This helps the marinade penetrate deeply.
Step 3
After making the slits, pour enough milk over the chicken to cover it and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Soaking in milk not only removes any unpleasant odors but also works wonders in tenderizing the meat.
Step 4
While the chicken is marinating, let’s make the delicious soy sauce marinade! In a bowl, combine 5 Tbsp soy sauce, 3 Tbsp sugar, 1/3 Tbsp ginger powder, a pinch of herb salt, and 1 Tbsp oyster sauce. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Your perfect marinade is ready!
Step 5
Take the chicken out of the milk, rinse it again under running water, and pat it dry. Lightly sprinkle the chicken with herb salt for some initial seasoning.
Step 6
Now, generously coat the chicken with the prepared special soy sauce marinade. Make sure to spread the sauce evenly over all sides, including inside the slits and crevices.
Step 7
After coating the chicken evenly with the marinade, cover it with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours to let the flavors meld. The longer it marinates, the deeper and richer the taste will be. I marinated mine for over 4 hours for maximum flavor.
Step 8
Remove the well-marinated chicken and arrange it in a single layer in your air fryer basket, ensuring the pieces don’t overlap. This allows for even cooking and crispiness. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 10-15 minutes, then flip the chicken and air fry for another 10-15 minutes. The exact cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model and the size of the chicken pieces. Keep an eye on it, flipping and checking periodically to prevent the sauce from burning, and avoid excessively high temperatures.
Step 9
Voila! Your golden-brown and incredibly appetizing soy sauce chicken is ready. Doesn’t it look delicious? You’ve successfully made air fryer chicken, even if you’re a beginner cook!
Step 10
If you forget to preheat your air fryer, like I did once, the sauce might char a little. Don’t worry! Just trim off any burnt parts, and it will still taste amazing. Enjoy your homemade chicken!
