Air Fryer Salad Toast: Simple and Delicious
[Air Fryer Recipe] Super Easy Salad Toast 😀
My husband wanted toast with cabbage, so I decided to add a fresh cabbage salad to the popular ‘drug toast’ recipe. It’s a simple yet incredibly satisfying meal!
Ingredients- 4 slices of bread
- Mayonnaise, as needed
- 1 handful of pizza cheese (approx. 50g)
- 2 eggs
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1/2 paper cup of butter (approx. 50g)
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 handful of cabbage (approx. 50g)
- Ketchup, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, take two slices of bread and use a cup to cut out a circle from the center, creating a donut shape. This will help hold the egg later.
Step 2
Thinly spread mayonnaise on one of the remaining two bread slices. This will act as an adhesive to help the bread layers stick together.
Step 3
Place the two donut-shaped bread slices on top of the mayonnaise-covered slice. Then, generously fill the hole of the donut-shaped bread with pizza cheese. The cheese will melt and bind everything together.
Step 4
In a paper cup, place about half a cup of butter and microwave for about 1 minute, or until completely melted. Once the butter is melted, proceed to the next step.
Step 5
Add 3 tablespoons of sugar to the melted butter and stir until the sugar is mostly dissolved. This creates a sweet butter glaze.
Step 6
Carefully pour the melted butter and sugar mixture around the edges of the toast, on the crust. This step is key to making the edges crispy and sweet, like a delightful rusk!
Step 7
Create a border around the edge of the toast using mayonnaise. Pipe a ring of mayonnaise around the crust. This ‘mayo dam’ will prevent the egg from spilling out when you add it.
Step 8
Gently crack one egg into the center of each toast. Lightly prick the yolk with a toothpick or fork to prevent it from bursting during cooking. Sprinkle a pinch of black pepper over the eggs for added flavor.
Step 9
Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and carefully place the prepared toasts onto it. Ensure they are placed evenly.
Step 10
Set your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook for 15 minutes. The bread should be golden brown and the eggs cooked to your liking. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
Step 11
While the toast is cooking, take your handful of cabbage and shred it very thinly using a mandoline or a sharp knife. Thinly shredded cabbage will make a wonderful, fresh salad topping.
Step 12
Once thinly shredded, you’ll have a nice amount of cabbage for a fresh topping. It looks great and adds a lovely crunch.
Step 13
After 15 minutes, carefully remove the perfectly golden-brown toast from the air fryer. The crust should be crispy, and the egg cooked through but still wonderfully moist.
Step 14
Place the delicious toast on a serving plate. Top generously with the fresh shredded cabbage salad. Finish with a drizzle of ketchup, and your flavorful Salad Toast is ready to be enjoyed!
