Main Ingredients- 300g chicken tenderloin (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 2-3 stalks green onion (cut into similar size as chicken)
- 10 whole garlic cloves (peeled)
- About 10 small rice cakes (soaked in water)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the chicken tenderloin under running water. Pat it dry and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Place the chicken in a bowl and season with 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Mix well and let it marinate for 30 minutes. This step removes any gamey smell from the chicken and infuses it with flavor, making it much tastier.
Step 2
While the chicken is marinating, prepare the ingredients for the skewers. Cut the green onions into pieces about 2-3 cm long, similar to the size of the chicken. Peel the whole garlic cloves. Soak the rice cakes in cold water for about 10 minutes; this will prevent them from becoming too hard after cooking. Soaking the skewers in water beforehand can also help prevent them from burning.
Step 3
Now, thread the ingredients onto the skewers in a repeating pattern. Alternate between green onion, chicken, rice cake, and garlic. This order not only looks appealing but also ensures even cooking. Make sure to press the ingredients gently as you thread them to keep the skewers compact and prevent them from falling apart during cooking.
Step 4
Arrange the prepared chicken skewers in the air fryer basket. Ensure there’s a little space between each skewer so that hot air can circulate evenly. This will help them cook to a perfect crisp.
Step 5
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook the skewers for 7 minutes. The chicken should start to cook through and become lightly golden.
Step 6
While the skewers are cooking, prepare the delicious soy glaze. In a small pot or pan, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 6 Tbsp water, and 1 Tbsp sugar. Heat over low heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. If you like a bit of heat, you can add some finely chopped chili peppers or chili powder at this stage for a spicy kick.
Step 7
After 7 minutes, carefully remove the skewers from the air fryer. Using tongs, flip each skewer over. Brush the glaze evenly over the chicken and other ingredients. Applying a thin, even coat of glaze will prevent burning and give the skewers a beautiful sheen.
Step 8
Return the glazed skewers to the air fryer. Set the temperature to 180°C (350°F) again and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the chicken, rice cakes, green onions, and garlic dry and tough. They should be perfectly cooked with a savory-sweet glaze.
Step 9
Your delicious chicken skewers are ready! Serve them hot for the best texture – slightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This simple yet impressive dish is perfect for gatherings or a special meal. Enjoy! ^^
