Rice Ball Ingredients- 1.5 cups warm cooked rice
- 2 sheets toasted seaweed (nori)
- A little sliced cheese
- 2 Tbsp canned tuna, drained
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 imitation crab stick (shredded)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Rice Seasoning- 1/4 tsp salt
- A little sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp salt
- A little sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the tuna mayo filling. In a bowl, combine the drained canned tuna (2 Tbsp), mayonnaise (1 Tbsp), a pinch of salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix them thoroughly until well combined. This creates your delicious tuna mayo filling.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to season the rice. Add the salt (1/4 tsp) and a little sesame oil to the warm cooked rice (1.5 cups). Gently mix the rice using a spatula, being careful not to mash the grains. This step is crucial for infusing the rice with wonderful flavor.
Step 3
Next, we’ll wrap the tuna mayo filling with the seasoned rice. Lightly moisten your hands or put on food-safe gloves. Take a portion of the seasoned rice and flatten it into a round shape. Place a generous spoonful of the tuna mayo filling in the center. Carefully cover the filling with the rice, shaping it into a neat ball. Make sure it’s well-sealed so the filling doesn’t leak out. Aim for a size that’s easy for children to eat.
Step 4
Let’s get ready to decorate the rice balls like Doraemon! Take your two sheets of toasted seaweed (nori). Cut out a circular hole in the center of each sheet, large enough to fit your rice ball. (Folding the nori in half before cutting can help create a uniform circle.) Place the shaped rice ball onto the prepared nori. Wrap the nori around the rice ball and then tightly wrap the whole thing in plastic wrap. This helps maintain the shape and prevents the nori from coming undone.
Step 5
Finally, let’s complete Doraemon’s face! Use pieces of the cut-out nori to create whiskers and a mouth, then attach them. You can use the shredded imitation crab stick to represent Doraemon’s red nose or his collar. Cut out circles from the sliced cheese to make the eyes, and attach them. Voila! Your adorable Doraemon rice balls are complete! This is a super fun activity to do with children!
