Addictive Sweet & Savory Chicken Sauce (Gangjeong Sauce)
Homemade Special Chicken Sauce / Gangjeong Sauce Recipe
Discover the secret to an irresistible chicken sauce! This recipe was born from experimenting with various seasonings, resulting in a sauce that’s perfect for coating fried chicken and transforming it into a delicious ‘Gangjeong’ (Korean sweet and savory fried chicken).
Main Ingredients
- 1 cup Corn syrup (approx. 200ml)
- 1/3 cup Water (approx. 65ml, optional)
- 1.5 to 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste, generous)
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic (freshly minced recommended)
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce (brewed soy sauce or soup soy sauce)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by pouring 1 cup of corn syrup into a saucepan. Corn syrup is key to achieving the sauce’s sweetness and thick consistency.
Step 2
Optionally, add 1/3 cup of water. Adding water will thin out the sauce slightly, making it easier to coat the fried chicken evenly. Stir well to combine.
Step 3
Now, add all the remaining seasoning ingredients. Include 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of gochugaru (adjust for your preferred spice level), 1 tablespoon of gochujang, 2 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Whisk everything together thoroughly using a whisk or spatula until well combined and no lumps remain. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Once simmering, continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Your delicious chicken sauce is now ready to coat your favorite fried chicken!
