  • 1 cup water (200ml)
  • 4 Cheongyang chili peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 handful of carrot, julienned (about 50g)
  • 1/4 onion, thinly sliced (about 50g)
  • 1 handful of green onion, chopped (about 50g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s begin making the most delicious ‘Mayak Gyeran Jang,’ a true rice thief! This dish will become an indispensable delicacy on your dining table.

Step 1

Step 2

To achieve the perfect half-boiled egg, carefully place the eggs into boiling water with 1 tablespoon of vinegar and a pinch of salt. Boil for precisely 6 minutes. This will result in beautifully soft and jammy yolks.

Step 2

Step 3

Immediately transfer the boiled eggs to cold water to stop the cooking process and cool them down. This trick makes peeling much easier. Once thoroughly chilled, gently peel the eggs and set them aside.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s prepare the delicious soy marinade. You’ll need the 7 eggs, 1 cup of soy sauce, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of water. For the vegetables, prepare 4 Cheongyang chili peppers, a handful of carrot, 1/4 onion, and a handful of green onion. Thinly julienne the onion and carrot. Finely chop the green onion.

Step 4

Step 5

In a large bowl or an airtight container, add 1 cup of sugar to bring sweetness to the marinade.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour in 1 cup of water and stir gently until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, add 1 cup of soy sauce, the key to the savory flavor. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, add the julienned onion, chopped Cheongyang chili peppers, carrot, and green onion to the mixture. Stir everything together to let the aromatic and spicy flavors infuse into the sauce.

Step 8

Step 9

Place the peeled half-boiled eggs into the prepared soy sauce mixture. Gently toss to ensure the eggs are well-coated. This recipe is wonderfully convenient because it doesn’t require any cooking! It’s especially great during the hot summer months when you don’t want to spend much time by the stove.

Step 9

Step 10

And there you have it – your delicious half-boiled marinated eggs are ready! While they are tasty right away, chilling them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes will allow the flavors to deepen, resulting in an even more exquisite taste. Serve them over rice, and watch your rice disappear in no time!
