Tteokbokki Ingredients
- 300g Milltteok (rice cakes) (soaking them in cold water beforehand can help achieve a softer texture)
- 4 Tbsp Curry Powder
- 5 Tbsp Sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp Black Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes – adjust to your spice preference)
- 6 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 700ml Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pour 700ml of water into a pot. This forms the base broth for your tteokbokki.
Step 2
Add 6 Tbsp Gochujang, 3 Tbsp Gochugaru, 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce, 5 Tbsp Sugar, and 4 Tbsp Curry Powder to the water. Whisk them thoroughly until no lumps remain. This sauce is key to the signature Shinjeon Tteokbokki flavor, with the curry powder adding a fragrant and spicy dimension.
Step 3
Once the sauce mixture begins to boil, add the 300g of Milltteok. Stir gently to ensure the rice cakes are evenly coated with the sauce.
Step 4
When the rice cakes are cooked and floating to the surface, add 1/2 Tbsp Black Pepper. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Remember to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Step 5
Once the tteokbokki has thickened to your liking, finish by generously topping with mozzarella cheese, if desired. The melting cheese on the hot tteokbokki creates a wonderfully creamy texture. Adjust the spiciness or sweetness to perfectly suit your taste and enjoy!
