Ingredients- Fresh salmon (about 2/3 the size of a palm)
- Sweet onion (1/3)
- Zucchini (1/4)
- Bell pepper (1/3)
- Vegetable broth (100g)
- Rice (100g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the rice, the foundation of your baby food. Using freshly milled rice (haepssal) will yield the best results. Rinse the rice thoroughly and let it soak in water for about 1 hour. A good tip for selecting fresh rice is to check the milling date and choose the most recent one. Since it’s currently the season for haepssal, you’ll easily find fresh rice!

Step 2
Next is the star ingredient: salmon. Carefully prepare fresh salmon by removing any bones. If you’re concerned about a fishy odor or if it might be too strong for your baby, you can soak the salmon in diluted formula for a short period to mellow its flavor. This step is optional but can add a smoother taste. π Tip: Salmon is excellent for brain development and is generally recommended for babies aged 8-10 months and older. Please check your baby’s age before serving.

Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the other vegetables. Finely dice the colorful bell pepper, tender zucchini, and sweet onion. Since we’ll be blending everything later, you don’t need to chop them extremely small. π Tip: Bell peppers are a good source of iron, and zucchini is rich in vitamins, making them excellent additions to baby food. I wanted to include carrots, which pair wonderfully with salmon and are also a great source of vitamins, but unfortunately, I ran out. If you have carrots, feel free to add them!

Step 4
Gently boil the prepared salmon in water for about 5 minutes. Be careful not to overcook it, as this can make the salmon dry and tough. Cook it just until it’s tender and moist. The exact cooking time may vary depending on the size and thickness of the salmon piece, so adjust as needed to ensure a perfectly soft texture for your baby.

Step 5
Now, it’s time to blend all the ingredients together. Place the soaked rice, prepared vegetables, and cooked salmon into a blender. Blend briefly, just enough to combine them. It’s good to leave some texture for your baby to practice chewing. Avoid blending too finely, as this can make the baby food too watery. Adjust the blending time to achieve your desired consistency.

Step 6
Transfer the lightly blended mixture to a pot and cook it thoroughly. Gradually add the vegetable broth while stirring to maintain a smooth and appropriate consistency. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the baby food is well-cooked and reaches a lovely texture.

Step 7
Once the baby food is cooked, let it cool down. Then, portion it into baby food containers for refrigeration or freezing. If the flavor seems a bit bland for your baby, you can add a tiny pinch of baby-specific salt or soy sauce to adjust the taste. It’s so rewarding to think of your baby enjoying this delicious and nutritious meal!
