- 1 Tbsp Perilla Oil (15ml)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame Oil (7.5ml) – for finishing aroma
- 1/2 packet Yoori Jaengi Map Jeuning (approx. 20g)
- 1/2 cup water (standard paper cup, approx. 100ml)
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce (15ml)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar (15g) – adjust sweetness as needed
- 1 Tbsp Perilla Oil (15ml)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame Oil (7.5ml) – for finishing aroma
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, clean the squid and cut it into bite-sized pieces suitable for stir-frying. Thinly slice the onion after peeling its skin.
Step 2
Let’s make the delicious stir-fry sauce! In a bowl, combine half a packet of ‘Yoori Jaengi Map Jeuning’, half a paper cup of water, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir well until all ingredients are blended.
Step 3
Heat 1 tablespoon of perilla oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped scallions (or green onions) and stir-fry gently over low heat to release their aroma. This step creates a flavorful scallion oil that enhances the overall taste of the squid stir-fry.
Step 4
Once the scallion fragrance intensifies, add the prepared squid to the pan. Add an additional 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir-fry them together. Stir quickly to prevent the squid from sticking to the pan.
Step 5
When the squid is about halfway cooked and turns opaque, pour in all the prepared stir-fry sauce. Mix well to ensure the sauce coats the squid evenly.
Step 6
As the sauce simmers and the liquid starts to reduce, add the sliced onions. It’s best to add the onions when the squid is almost fully cooked, so they don’t become too mushy.
Step 7
Stir-fry everything together for another moment until the sauce thickens slightly. Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in half a tablespoon of sesame oil for an extra fragrant finish. Your spicy and sweet stir-fried squid is ready! Serve it over hot rice or enjoy it with a cold beer.
