  • 1/4 Onion
  • 1/4 Carrot
  • 1/2 Green Bell Pepper
  • 1/2 Can of Spam (or similar canned ham)

Seasoning & Extras

  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
  • 0.5 tsp Sriracha Sauce
  • 1 tsp Sweet Chili Sauce
  • Mozzarella Cheese (to taste)
  • Rice Paper Wrappers
  • Cooking Oil
  • Pickled Cucumbers (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the ‘Chamdream’ rice from Kyonggimi. This rice is known for its excellent taste and nutritional value, which will enhance the base flavor of your fried rice.

Wash the rice thoroughly and cook it as you normally would. You’ll have delicious, glossy cooked rice ready to go.

Finely dice all the vegetables and ham for the fried rice. The onion, carrot, and green bell pepper will add texture and color, while the canned ham contributes savory flavor. Dice them as small as possible, especially if for children.

Heat a pan over medium heat and add cooking oil. First, sauté the diced onion until translucent. Then, add the diced carrot, bell pepper, and ham in sequence, stirring and cooking until all ingredients are softened and fragrant. Thoroughly sautéing the ingredients will deepen the flavor of the fried rice.

Add the cooked rice to the pan with the sautéed vegetables and ham. Stir-fry them together. At this stage, add a pinch of salt for seasoning and 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce for umami. Stir-fry evenly, breaking up any clumps of rice with your spatula to ensure even cooking.

Let the fried rice cool slightly in the pan, then add a generous amount of mozzarella cheese and mix it with the rice until well combined. The residual heat will slightly melt the cheese, creating a wonderful gooey texture binding the rice grains.

Briefly dip a rice paper wrapper in warm water until pliable. Place about one spoonful of the cheese fried rice mixture onto the softened wrapper. Be careful not to use excessively hot rice, as it can tear the wrapper. Tightly roll up the rice paper, enclosing the filling.

Place the rolled spring roll fried rice onto a lightly oiled, preheated frying pan over low heat. Rotate them gently as they cook, until golden brown and the cheese inside is fully melted. For convenience, you can also use an air fryer at 180°C (350°F) for about 5-7 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix 0.5 teaspoon of Sriracha sauce with 1 teaspoon of sweet chili sauce to create a spicy and sweet dipping sauce. Dip the finished spring roll fried rice rolls into this sauce for an enhanced flavor experience. Optionally, serve with pickled cucumbers to balance the richness and add a refreshing touch.
