  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 80g minced pork
  • 1/2 block tofu (approx. 150g)
  • 1/4 carrot (small)
  • 1/4 bell pepper (using different colors makes it more visually appealing)
  • A little king oyster mushroom (trim ends and mince)
  • 1 pack inari sushi pockets (approx. 12-14 pieces)

Seasoning and Rice Mixing Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp crab soy sauce or regular soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 Tbsp agave syrup or oligodextrin
  • 1 Tbsp cooking sake (mirin)
  • Garlic powder or minced garlic to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s make the filling for the inari sushi! In a bowl, combine the minced pork, squeezed and mashed tofu, and finely minced carrot, bell pepper, and king oyster mushroom. Add 5 Tbsp crab soy sauce (or regular soy sauce), 1 Tbsp fish sauce, 2 Tbsp agave syrup, 1 Tbsp cooking sake, and garlic powder (or minced garlic) to taste. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a pan over medium-low heat. Add the prepared filling and stir-fry slowly. Cook until the pork is fully cooked and the vegetables are tender. It’s important to cook it until some of the moisture evaporates, as too much moisture can make the rice mushy. Once cooked, turn off the heat.

Step 2

Step 3

In a bowl, combine about 2 bowls of warm cooked rice (approx. 400g) with about 7 Tbsp of the cooked filling. Gently mix with a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Taste and if needed, you can add a tiny bit more soy sauce or salt.

Step 3

Step 4

If you have any leftover filling, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It’s perfect for making quick onigiri (rice balls) or fried rice later – a great way to save time!

Step 4

Step 5

Add the included vegetable flakes from the inari sushi kit to the seasoned rice and mix them in for an even richer flavor. The colorful flakes also make the sushi more appealing to children.

Step 5

Step 6

Carefully open the inari sushi pockets and gently squeeze out any excess liquid. Be careful not to squeeze too hard, as the pockets can tear. A light squeeze is best to preserve their original flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Take a portion of the seasoned rice and shape it into a bite-sized ball. Make them a size that’s easy for children to eat.

Step 7

Step 8

Gently open one inari pocket. Place a portion of the shaped rice into the pocket. Don’t overfill, as the pocket might burst. Adjust the amount of rice accordingly.

Step 8

Step 9

Gently press the pocket with your fingers to shape it. Your delicious inari sushi is now complete! Making them look nice will surely make the kids more excited to eat them.

Step 9

Step 10

Now it’s time to enjoy your homemade inari sushi! Making them together as a family will make for an even more enjoyable weekend snack. Enjoy your meal!
