Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Tuna, drained
  • 1 block Tofu (approx. 300g)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/2 Green Bell Pepper
  • 1/2 Red Bell Pepper
  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 Tbsp Butter

Hambak Steak Sauce

  • 4 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 100ml Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the vegetables that will add flavor and texture to your hambak steak. Wash the onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper thoroughly, remove the seeds, and finely dice them. Finely dicing the vegetables ensures they mix well with the patty mixture and contribute to a smoother texture.

Step 1

Step 2

It’s crucial to drain the tofu properly. Take 1 block of tofu and mash it. A simple way to mash it is by placing it in a plastic bag and pressing down with your hands. Then, take portions of the mashed tofu, form them into balls, and squeeze out as much water as possible before placing them in a bowl. Properly squeezing out the water will prevent the mixture from becoming too wet.

Step 2

Step 3

Drain all the oil from the canned tuna using a sieve. This step ensures your hambak steak is not greasy and has a cleaner, more refined flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

In a large bowl, combine the mashed tofu, finely diced onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and the drained canned tuna. (Optional: You can also add chopped perilla leaves or other herbs for extra flavor).

Step 4

Step 5

To help bind the mixture and enhance the flavor, crack in 3 eggs and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly using your hands or a spatula until a cohesive mixture forms. Continue to mix until the ingredients are well combined and the mixture has a slightly sticky consistency.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, let’s prepare the sauce that will make your hambak steak irresistible. In a separate bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 100ml of water. Whisk well until all ingredients are dissolved. This creates a perfectly balanced sweet and savory sauce that even children will love.

Step 6

Step 7

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Take portions of the hambak steak mixture, form them into palm-sized patties, and place them in the pan. Cook on both sides until golden brown and cooked through. Ensure the patties are cooked evenly on the inside. Once the patties are almost done, add 1 tablespoon of butter to one side of the pan and let it melt. Pour the prepared sauce over the patties and let it simmer until it thickens slightly. Your delicious Tuna Tofu Hambak Steak is now ready! Serve hot with rice or a side salad.
