Super Easy Tofu & Tomato Gratin Recipe

Experience the trending ‘Pyeonstorange’ style tofu dish at home with this incredibly simple and easy recipe! Don’t worry if you don’t follow YouTube trends; this gratin uses common ingredients you likely have. It’s a delightful combination of soft silken tofu, tangy tomato sauce, fragrant onions and mushrooms, all topped with melty, stretchy cheese. Baking it in the oven brings out a richer flavor and a beautiful golden-brown finish. While a microwave works, the oven is recommended for that perfect crispy texture and appetizing look. Pro tip: Sautéing the onions before adding them will deepen the flavor significantly!

Main Ingredients

  • Silken Tofu 800g (approx. 2 packs)
  • Store-bought Tomato Sauce 400g
  • 1 Onion
  • 4 Button Mushrooms
  • Mozzarella Cheese (Shredded) 200g

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 800g of silken tofu (usually about 2 packs). This recipe yields approximately 4 servings.

Step 1

Step 2

Peel and thinly slice 1 onion. Slicing it thinly helps release its sweetness when cooked.

Step 2

Step 3

Since we’ll be baking this, use an oven-safe dish. Carefully cut each silken tofu pack in half, then gently slide the tofu out. Slice the tofu into approximately 1.5cm thick pieces and arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of your oven dish. This helps maintain the tofu’s shape as it cooks.

Step 3

Step 4

Evenly spread the sliced onions over the layer of tofu. The sweetness from the onions will complement the tofu and tomato sauce beautifully.

Step 4

Step 5

Slice the 4 button mushrooms thinly and arrange them decoratively over the onions. I’m using frozen mushrooms here, but fresh ones work wonderfully too. Their earthy aroma adds another layer of flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, pour the 400g of store-bought tomato sauce evenly over all the ingredients. Ensure the sauce coats everything well.

Step 6

Step 7

Generously sprinkle 200g of shredded mozzarella cheese over the tomato sauce. Feel free to adjust the amount according to your preference – more cheese is always a good idea!

Step 7

Step 8

For an extra touch, add a little more tomato sauce on top, followed by another generous layer of mozzarella cheese. Place the dish in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Adjust the baking time based on your oven’s performance.

Step 8

Step 9

Your delicious Silken Tofu Gratin is ready! Fresh from the oven, it boasts a beautiful golden cheese topping, resembling a creamy tomato and tofu soup. The irresistible combination of stretchy cheese, tangy tomato sauce, and soft tofu creates a truly wonderful dish. Enjoy the heavenly aroma of tomato and cheese wafting from the oven!
