- 1/4 fresh scallion (use mostly the white parts)
- 1/4 small onion
- 1/4 yellow bell pepper (for color and texture)
- 1 bowl cooked rice (approx. 210g)
Seasoning & Aromatics- 1 piece butter (about 10g)
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 1 piece butter (about 10g)
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely chop the scallion, focusing on the white parts. This will be used to create aromatic scallion oil, a key flavor enhancer for the fried rice.
Step 2
Dice the onion and yellow bell pepper into small, uniform pieces suitable for fried rice. Cutting them small makes them blend nicely and is also great for kids.
Step 3
Cut the bacon into bite-sized pieces. This ensures they are evenly distributed and easy to eat in the fried rice.
Step 4
Drain any excess liquid from the kimchi and chop it finely. This helps the kimchi integrate smoothly with the rice grains when stir-frying.
Step 5
Melt 1 piece of butter in a heated pan over low heat until it’s fully liquid. Add the chopped scallions and sauté until they turn golden brown and fragrant, releasing their delicious aroma. This step creates the foundational scallion oil for your fried rice.
Step 6
Once the scallions are lightly browned, add the diced onion, bell pepper, and bacon to the pan. Stir-fry over medium-high heat for 1-2 minutes. You want the vegetables to soften slightly and the bacon to release some of its fat, but avoid overcooking them until they become mushy.
Step 7
Now, add the chopped kimchi to the pan. Stir-fry until the kimchi has softened slightly and the mixture looks somewhat dry and cohesive. You’ll notice the tangy aroma of the kimchi as it cooks.
Step 8
Add 1 bowl of warm cooked rice and 1/2 Tbsp of oyster sauce directly onto the ingredients in the pan.
Step 9
Using a spatula, gently mix and stir-fry to combine the rice, kimchi, vegetables, and seasonings. Be careful not to mash the rice grains. Taste and add a tiny bit more oyster sauce if needed, adjusting based on the saltiness of your kimchi.
Step 10
Once the fried rice is cooked through, turn off the heat. Sprinkle with a pinch of black pepper. Finish by scattering toasted sesame seeds over the top for extra flavor and texture! For an even richer taste, consider adding a drizzle of sesame oil. Enjoy your delicious meal! 😊
