Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a bowl, crack 2 fresh eggs. Add 1/2 teaspoon of soy sauce and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Whisk thoroughly until well combined. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat, pour in the egg mixture, and stir with chopsticks to scramble into fluffy curds. Be careful not to burn the eggs; maintaining medium-low heat is key.
Step 2
Wash and thoroughly dry one bunch of chives. Finely chop the chives. Heat a pan with 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil over high heat. Add the chopped chives and a pinch of salt, then stir-fry quickly until the chives are slightly wilted but still vibrant green. This preserves their fresh aroma.
Step 3
Remove the seeds from one red bell pepper and dice it finely. Heat a pan with a little cooking oil over high heat. Add the diced bell pepper and stir-fry quickly until tender-crisp. The goal is to retain some of its satisfying crunch.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine 200g of minced pork with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cooking wine (or mirin), 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and a dash of pepper. Mix well with your hands to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. Heat a pan over high heat and stir-fry the mixture until it’s crumbly and cooked through. Stir continuously to prevent sticking and burning.
Step 5
Prepare a serving of warm, cooked rice. Gently spread the rice evenly in the bottom of your bento box or serving bowl. Aim for an even layer without packing it down too tightly.
Step 6
Artfully arrange the cooked minced pork, scrambled eggs, stir-fried chives, and stir-fried bell pepper on top of the rice. Layer them colorfully to create a visually appealing dish, much like a rainbow.
Step 7
This Soboro Donburi is flavorful on its own, without needing a separate sauce. The ingredients’ natural flavors and seasonings meld beautifully with the rice, creating a harmonious and satisfying taste experience.
Step 8
While delicious served immediately, Soboro Donburi is also excellent at room temperature, making it an ideal choice for packed lunches. It’s a simple yet hearty meal that’s perfect for on-the-go.
Step 9
Closing the lid and placing the bento box on the table evokes a feeling of a delightful picnic. Now, are you curious about the delicious contents waiting inside? Let’s open it with excitement!
