Our absolute favorite homemade snack! These sweet potato chips are so incredibly crispy that you just can’t stop reaching for more. They’re perfect for satisfying your cravings guilt-free. Making them in an air fryer is a game-changer, resulting in a wonderfully crunchy texture without the excess oil.

Ingredients

  • 5 medium sweet potatoes

Seasoning & Others

  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Olive oil

Cooking Instructions

First, peel the sweet potatoes completely. If not using immediately, you can soak them in cold water to prevent browning.

Slice the sweet potatoes as thinly as possible. Aim for about 0.2 cm (or 1/16th of an inch) thickness. This thinness is key to achieving a crispy, chip-like texture. A mandoline slicer or a grater can help you get uniform slices.

Place the sliced sweet potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for about 20 minutes to remove excess starch. This step helps make the chips extra crispy and prevents them from sticking together.

Drain the sweet potato slices thoroughly using a colander.

Spread the drained sweet potato slices on a clean tray or cutting board. Use paper towels to pat them completely dry. Ensuring there’s no residual moisture is crucial for achieving a crispy result.

Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of salt evenly over both sides of the sweet potato slices. Make sure each piece gets lightly coated.

Next, sprinkle 2 teaspoons of sugar evenly over both sides. You can adjust the amount of sugar depending on the natural sweetness of the potatoes and your preference.

Drizzle a little olive oil over the seasoned slices. Put on disposable gloves and gently toss the sweet potato slices to ensure the seasoning and oil are evenly distributed on all pieces. This adds a lovely richness and helps them crisp up.

Arrange the seasoned sweet potato slices in a single layer in your air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t overlap. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for about 15 minutes. Halfway through, open the basket and check the chips, flipping them if necessary for even cooking. (Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model. Mine took approximately 15 minutes.)

Once golden brown and crispy, carefully remove the sweet potato chips from the air fryer. Let them cool slightly before enjoying. These addictive, crispy sweet potato chips are sure to be a hit!
