Nourishing Eggplant, Cabbage, and Beef Porridge
[Mid-Stage Baby Food] Steamed Porridge with Eggplant, Cabbage, and Beef – A Cold Remedy Baby Food
As the weather suddenly turned chilly, my 9-month-old son caught colds frequently. So, I decided to make a baby food using ingredients known for their cold-fighting properties. When I fed him this porridge, even my picky eater loved it and recovered from his cold right away! Since colds seem to linger these days, I wanted to share this recipe with other parents who are raising children.
Ingredients- Rice 50g
- Beef (tenderloin) 60g
- Eggplant 60g
- Cabbage 60g
Broth- Beef (brisket) broth 150ml
- Beef (brisket) broth 150ml
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for the baby food. Having them prepped beforehand will make the cooking process much smoother.
Step 2
Soak 60g of beef tenderloin in cold water for about 15 minutes to remove any blood and to tenderize it. Thoroughly draining the blood will result in a cleaner taste without any gamey odor.
Step 3
Precisely measure out 50g of dry rice. The amount of rice can be adjusted according to your baby’s intake.
Step 4
Place the measured rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse it lightly once. Then, soak it in clean water for 15 to 30 minutes. Soaking the rice will make the grains softer when cooked, aiding digestion and absorption.
Step 5
Wash the fresh eggplant under running water, remove the stem ends, and cut it into bite-sized pieces, measuring 60g. The purple skin of the eggplant is rich in nutrients, so it’s recommended to use it along with the flesh.
Step 6
Trim the outer leaves of the cabbage and measure out 60g. Briefly soak it in water mixed with a little baking soda and vinegar, then rinse thoroughly under running water to effectively remove any pesticides or impurities.
Step 7
Prepare the steamer. In the bottom layer of the steamer, place the soaked rice. Rice takes a bit longer to cook, so it’s best to put it in first.
Step 8
In the second tier of the steamer, arrange the prepared eggplant, cabbage, and the blood-removed beef tenderloin. Spreading the ingredients evenly is important for uniform cooking.
Step 9
Now, cover the steamer and start steaming for about 30 minutes. Using a steamer helps retain the ingredients’ natural flavors and nutrients while cooking them gently.
Step 10
After 30 minutes, remove the cooked rice, beef, and vegetables from the steamer and transfer them to a blender. Add 150ml of warm beef broth and blend until smooth, adjusting the consistency to your baby’s preference and desired texture.
Step 11
Your nutritious and cold-fighting baby food featuring eggplant, cabbage, and beef is ready! Make it with love, hoping your baby eats well and stays healthy.
