A Special Birthday Spread for My Husband

A Heartwarming Birthday Feast for My Husband (feat. Shrimp Delights)

This was my husband’s birthday spread from last December, prepared lovingly at home. We had a generous amount of shrimp, so I decided to feature them in our main dish, shrimp japchae, and a vibrant shrimp and vegetable salad. To complement these, I prepared delightful mill-ssam (rolled pancakes), sweet pumpkin sikhye (rice punch), refreshing pineapple juice, and a special homemade chocolate cream cheese cake. This spread was perfectly sized for our family of four, offering a variety of tastes. If you’re looking for inspiration for a birthday celebration, I hope our menu will be helpful!

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

This is the birthday spread for my husband, prepared with great care and with the enthusiastic help of our daughter. It’s filled with love.

Step 1

Step 2

The centerpiece of our dessert table: a homemade chocolate cream cheese cake. The rich chocolate sponge paired with smooth cream cheese frosting is simply divine.

Step 2

Step 3

We also prepared bulgogi wraps with perilla leaves, a universally loved dish. The aromatic perilla leaves and the sweet and savory bulgogi create a perfect harmony.

Step 3

Step 4

For a detailed guide on making these bulgogi perilla wraps, please refer to [Recipe ID: 6922204].

Step 4

Step 5

Our refreshing pineapple juice was made by blending store-bought pineapple drink with fresh pineapple chunks for a natural, zesty flavor, avoiding excessive sweetness.

Step 5

Step 6

To accompany the main dishes, we kept the side dishes simple with crisp pickled radishes, spicy pickled peppers, and flavorful kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi). They are perfect palate refreshers.

Step 6

Step 7

This is a healthy and vibrant salad featuring fresh vegetables, generous portions of shrimp, and flavorful beef. It serves as an excellent appetite-awakening appetizer.

Step 7

Step 8

We enjoyed the warm and nourishing seaweed soup (miyeokguk) for breakfast, so it wasn’t included in the main birthday table setting. (Hehe)

Step 8

Step 9

The most popular item was the smoked duck wrap, where slices of smoked duck were wrapped with stir-fried vegetables and a touch of mustard sauce. I plan to post a detailed recipe for this soon! See [Recipe ID: 6930242].

Step 9

Step 10

My daughter absolutely loved the gochu mill-ssam (pepper pancake rolls), so I made it again for the special occasion. The combination of spicy peppers and savory filling is delightful.

Step 10

Step 11

To use up the frozen shrimp we had, I decided to make a generous and delicious shrimp japchae. The plump shrimp add a wonderful texture to this classic dish.

Step 11

Step 12

Our daughter thoughtfully arranged the fruits on skewers so they would be easy to eat. They look as good as they taste!

Step 12

Step 13

You can find more details about the sweet pumpkin injeolmi by referencing [Recipe ID: 6926506].

Step 13

Step 14

This cake was made with moist chocolate layers, rich cream cheese, and decadent chocolate frosting – a perfect treat to uplift spirits on a special day.

Step 14

Step 15

We prepared each dish in portions that allowed our family of four to sample a little bit of everything. The variety is part of the joy!

Step 15

Step 16

This pumpkin sikhye was purchased from a local artisan; it’s not overly sweet and has a wonderfully deep pumpkin flavor. (Smile)

Step 16

Step 17

And the walnut pie, filled with sweet apple compote, is a true delicacy! I’ll be sharing the recipe for this delicious pie soon as well.
