  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Boiled
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • Pork Belly (Front Leg) 600g (1 whole piece)
  • Pepsi Cola 600ml
  • Water 300ml
  • Doenjang (Soybean Paste) 2 Tbsp
  • Soy Sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Bay Leaves 3 leaves
  • Whole Peppercorns 5 grains
  • Garlic 5 cloves
  • Onion 1
  • Green Onion 1 stalk

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the vegetables that will be added to the boiling liquid. First, wash the onion thoroughly and cut it in half.

Step 1

Step 2

Clean the green onion, removing any dirt, and chop it into large pieces, about 10cm long. The thicker parts of the stalk will add more flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Trim the bottom ends off the whole garlic cloves for a cleaner presentation. This also helps to reduce any bitterness from the garlic.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour 600ml of Pepsi Cola and 300ml of water into a large pot. The cola will help tenderize the meat and eliminate any gamey odors.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 2 tablespoons of doenjang (soybean paste) to help remove impurities and add depth, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce for savory flavor. Stir the liquid well.

Step 5

Step 6

Add the prepared onion, green onion, and garlic to the pot. Toss in 5 whole peppercorns and 3 bay leaves for aromatic enhancement.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, carefully place the 600g piece of pork belly into the prepared liquid. Your preparation is now complete!

Step 7

Step 8

Cover the pot with a lid and bring it to a boil over high heat. Wait until the liquid is vigorously bubbling.

Step 8

Step 9

Once the liquid is boiling, reduce the heat to medium. When steam starts to rise consistently, continue to simmer for 20 minutes to ensure the pork cooks through.

Step 9

Step 10

After 20 minutes, carefully remove the lid and gently flip the piece of pork. Continue to cook over medium heat for another 20 minutes. This ensures even cooking.

Step 10

Step 11

Lastly, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for an additional 10 minutes. This final step will result in incredibly tender and juicy boiled pork!

Step 11

Step 12

Carefully remove the perfectly boiled pork from the pot and place it on a cutting board. Be cautious as it will be hot. Let it rest for about 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute before slicing. Slicing too soon can cause it to fall apart.

Step 12

Step 13

Once the pork has cooled slightly, slice it into bite-sized pieces and arrange them attractively on a serving plate. Enjoy it warm for the best taste! It pairs wonderfully with kimchi, ssamjang (dipping paste), or saeujeot (salted shrimp).
