First, thoroughly peel the purple sweet potato and pat it completely dry with paper towels. Residual moisture can prevent the chips from becoming crispy, so ensure it’s well-dried.

When slicing the sweet potato thinly, a vegetable peeler can help create uniform, thin slices. However, for even thinner slices, using a knife might be slightly more effective.

I tried slicing with a peeler, but they didn’t turn out as thin as I’d hoped. Thinner slices are key for achieving a truly crispy texture. Using a knife allows for better control to slice them as thinly as possible.

Lightly brush the sliced purple sweet potato chips with a small amount of cooking oil. Avoid using too much, as it can make them soggy. It’s best to use a brush to apply just a thin coating.

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Place the prepared sweet potato chips inside and cook for 5 minutes. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.

After 5 minutes, flip the sweet potato chips over and cook for another 5 minutes at 180°C (350°F). They might still seem slightly soft, but that’s okay.

Once cooking is complete, remove the chips from the air fryer basket and spread them on a cooling rack. Let them cool for about 5 minutes. This step allows excess moisture to evaporate, making them perfectly crisp.

If using a microwave, arrange the sweet potato chips in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave for 5 minutes, then flip them and microwave for another 5 minutes. (Adjust cooking time based on your microwave’s power).
