How to Enjoy Delicious Chinese-Style Boiled Dumplings

Old-School Chinese Restaurant Style Boiled Dumplings

I made boiled dumplings in the style of old Chinese restaurants. Back in the day, when you ordered boiled dumplings at a Chinese place, they often came with a savory sauce and a little broth. It’s not as common to find them served this way nowadays. Maybe it was just popular in my neighborhood? Haha. This way, you can easily finish a whole bag of dumplings! My kids also love them as a snack and eat them up with spoons.

Ingredients

  • 30-35 frozen boiled dumplings
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 7 Tbsp water
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • Pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s make the delicious sauce. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1/2 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 7 tablespoons of water. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved. Think about the savory sauce from old Chinese restaurants as you mix it thoroughly.

Step 1

Step 2

Now it’s time to boil the dumplings. Fill a pot with plenty of water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling vigorously, carefully add the frozen boiled dumplings. Gently stir them to prevent them from sticking together.

Step 2

Step 3

As the dumplings cook, they will start to float to the surface. When they are fully cooked and floating, use a slotted spoon or strainer to remove them from the water. Before plating, let the excess water drain off for a moment; this helps the sauce adhere better.

Step 3

Step 4

Drizzle the prepared sauce evenly over the dumplings on your plate. Garnish with finely chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious old-school Chinese-style boiled dumplings are ready! Enjoy them while they’re warm.
