Essential Ingredients- 2 Ripe Bananas
- 1/2 cup Flour (all-purpose or cake flour, approx. 50g)
- 1 Fresh Egg
- 2 cups Cereal (your favorite kind, approx. 100g)
- Maple Syrup or Honey, to taste
- Vegetable Oil, for frying
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 2 ripe bananas. Peel them and cut each into 4 pieces, about 2-3 cm thick. Cutting them too thin might cause them to break apart while frying, so maintaining a moderate thickness is key.
Step 2
To add a crispy texture, place your chosen cereal into a ziplock bag or a thick plastic bag. Use a rolling pin or your hands to crush the cereal into medium-sized pieces. It’s best to leave some small chunks rather than crushing it into fine crumbs for a pleasant bite.
Step 3
Now, let’s get ready to coat the bananas. In a shallow dish or bowl, place the flour. In another bowl, whisk the egg until smooth to create an egg wash. Finally, spread the crushed cereal onto a wide plate. First, coat the banana pieces evenly in the flour, tapping off any excess. Then, dip them into the egg wash, ensuring they are fully coated. Finally, press them firmly into the crushed cereal, making sure the coating adheres well to prevent it from falling off during frying.
Step 4
Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot to about 170-180°C (340-350°F). You can test the oil temperature by dropping a small piece of batter; it should sizzle and float immediately. Carefully place the cereal-coated banana pieces into the hot oil. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes per side, until they turn a beautiful golden brown. Be careful not to fry them on excessively high heat, as the outside might burn before the inside is cooked. Once golden and crispy, remove the banana fritters with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels. Drizzle with maple syrup or honey while still warm for a perfectly delicious finish!
