Fried Rice Ingredients

  • 1/4 Zucchini
  • 1/4 Onion
  • 30g Mushrooms (to your liking)
  • 1/4 Carrot
  • 50g Ham (Spam or your favorite ham)
  • 1.5 bowls Cooked Rice

Egg Omelet

  • 5 Eggs

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the fried rice filling for the omurice. Finely dice the zucchini, onion, mushrooms, carrot, and ham. Chopping them into small pieces will make them easier for children to eat. Feel free to add or omit vegetables according to your preference.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a pan over medium heat with a little oil. Add all the diced vegetables and ham and stir-fry. It’s important to sauté them thoroughly until the vegetables become translucent and the ham releases its fat to develop flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the vegetables and ham are cooked, add the warm cooked rice. Break up any clumps of rice with a spatula and stir-fry until it’s evenly mixed with the vegetables and ham.

Step 3

Step 4

When the rice is well mixed with the ingredients, add 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce for seasoning. You can use soy sauce instead of oyster sauce, but oyster sauce adds a richer umami flavor, making it much tastier. Finally, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious fried rice is ready!

Step 4

Step 5

Crack 5 eggs into a large bowl. Remove the chalazae (the white stringy bits) and whisk them thoroughly with a whisk to create a smooth egg mixture. You don’t need to add salt, as the fried rice is already well-seasoned.

Step 5

Step 6

In a clean pan, heat a generous amount of oil over medium-low heat. Pour in about one ladleful of the egg mixture and spread it thinly and evenly to form a round omelet. The key is to cook it gently over low heat so the egg doesn’t overcook.

Step 6

Step 7

When the omelet is about half-cooked, place the prepared fried rice in the center of the egg. Then, gently fold the sides of the egg omelet over the fried rice, like tucking it in with a blanket.

Step 7

Step 8

Carefully invert the finished omurice onto a serving plate. Flip the pan decisively in one motion so the rice doesn’t fall apart! Once the shape is nicely formed, add a drizzle of ketchup to garnish as desired.

Step 8

Step 9

I made enough for everyone in the family to enjoy! Complete your happy weekend morning with this omurice, featuring a delightful combination of colorful vegetables and tender egg.
