Kid-Approved! Easy and Delicious Sausage Fried Rice
Today, we’re making sausage fried rice with sautéed kimchi on the side! It’s a simple yet satisfying meal that kids absolutely love. Perfect for using up leftover vegetables and sausages from your fridge.
Main Ingredients- 1/3 Carrot (finely diced or thinly julienned)
- 1 Sausage (sliced into bite-sized pieces)
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice
- 1 handful of well-fermented kimchi (finely chopped)
Seasoning & Extras- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Plum Extract (or syrup)
- 1 Tbsp Ketchup (optional)
- A pinch of Gim-ban (seaweed flakes, optional)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the carrot. Wash and peel 1/3 of a carrot, then julienne it very thinly or dice it finely. This preparation ensures even picky eaters will enjoy it when stir-fried.
Step 2
Heat a deep pan or wok over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil. Add the julienned carrots and stir-fry for about 1 minute until slightly softened. Then, add 1 bowl of warm cooked rice, breaking it up with your spatula. Drizzle 1 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of plum extract directly over the rice. Stir-fry thoroughly, ensuring the rice grains are separated and evenly coated with the sauce. Cooking until each grain is well-seasoned is key.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to slice the sausage. Cut 1 sausage into bite-sized pieces, such as diagonally or into rounds. It’s best to cut them small enough for children to eat easily.

Add the sliced sausage to the pan and cook over medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Lightly searing the sausage enhances its flavor and texture.
Step 5
Once the sausage is partially cooked, add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. The aroma of garlic will add a delicious depth to the fried rice.
Step 6
Prepare another pan and stir-fry 1 handful of finely chopped kimchi over medium heat until softened. If the kimchi is too sour, you can add a tiny pinch of sugar. Once the kimchi is well-sautéed, turn off the heat, drizzle a little olive oil into the pan, and mix it with the rice. (Alternatively, you can add the kimchi to the same pan used for the rice and stir-fry together.)
Step 7
Now it’s time to bring all the ingredients together for a delicious finish! Combine the stir-fried rice, kimchi, and sausage in the pan. Finally, sprinkle 1 Tbsp of sesame seeds over the top. For an extra touch of flavor, drizzle 1 Tbsp of ketchup or add some Gim-ban for a crispy texture, according to your preference. Mix everything well, and your delicious sausage fried rice is ready to be enjoyed!
