Main Ingredients

  • 100g fresh ginger (If using unpeeled ginger, soak in water to make peeling easier)
  • 100g pure honey (Adjust to your preference)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, if you’ve purchased unpeeled ginger, wash it thoroughly under running water using a brush. If it’s heavily soiled, soaking it in water for 1 to 20 minutes will soften the peel, making it much easier to remove. Peel completely and prepare.

Step 1

Step 2

Once the ginger is cleaned and prepared, slice it thinly into rounds, about 2-3mm thick. If the slices are too thick, they might be difficult to blend later, so aim for uniform thickness.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare honey in the same weight as the ginger (100g). Honey helps to mellow the slightly pungent taste of ginger and acts as a natural preservative.

Step 3

Step 4

In a wide bowl, combine the sliced ginger and honey. Initially, the ginger slices might not be fully submerged in the honey. However, after 1 to 20 minutes, the ginger will release its natural moisture, blending smoothly with the honey and reaching an ideal consistency for processing. Stirring occasionally will help.

Step 4

Step 5

Use an immersion blender to process the mixture until smooth. If you prefer a bit of texture from the ginger pieces, blend for a shorter time. For a completely smooth syrup, blend thoroughly. Adjust the blending time to achieve your desired texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Sterilizing the glass jar is crucial for storing the ginger syrup. Submerge the jar and lid in boiling water for sterilization, or use the sanitizing cycle of your dishwasher. Ensure the jar is completely dry before use.

Step 6

Step 7

Carefully transfer the finished ginger syrup into the sterilized and completely dried jar. Be mindful of the sticky honey around the jar’s rim for a clean finish. Seal the lid tightly and store in a cool place or refrigerate.
