Okinawa Onigiri Ingredients

  • 1/2 block Tofu
  • 1/2 thick-cut Ham
  • 2 well-done Fried Eggs
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 4 Aburaage pouches for Inari Sushi
  • 1 packet Inari Sushi liquid seasoning
  • 1 packet Inari Sushi flake seasoning
  • 1 tsp Toasted Sesame Seeds

Spicy Tuna Mayo Inari Sushi Ingredients

  • 8 Aburaage pouches for Inari Sushi
  • 1 packet Inari Sushi liquid seasoning
  • 1 packet Inari Sushi flake seasoning
  • 1 can Spicy Tuna (drained)
  • 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

For the spicy tuna mayo inari sushi, drain all the oil from the can of spicy tuna using a sieve. Then, place it in a bowl and mix with 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise.

Step 1

Step 2

Ensure the tuna is broken up and doesn’t clump together; mash it with a fork so it’s smooth and well-combined with the mayonnaise.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare the tofu and ham for the Okinawa onigiri. Heat a pan with a little oil, then add the diced tofu and thick-cut ham. Pan-fry until golden brown and slightly crisp.

Step 3

Step 4

For the fried eggs, cook them with the lid on the pan. This allows them to cook through without needing to be flipped, ensuring a perfectly cooked yolk and white.

Step 4

Step 5

The pan-fried ham and tofu, along with the well-done fried eggs, are now ready. These are the delicious core ingredients for our Okinawa onigiri!

Step 5

Step 6

In a separate bowl, combine the rice with the sweet and sour liquid seasoning, flake seasoning, and any other seasoning included in the inari sushi kit. Mix well to ensure every grain of rice is evenly coated.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, the rice for both the Okinawa onigiri and the spicy tuna mayo inari sushi is ready. We’re all set to assemble these tasty treats!

Step 7

Step 8

Let’s start with the Okinawa onigiri. Lay a sheet of sushi nori (seaweed) lengthwise. Spoon a generous amount of the seasoned rice onto the nori, spreading it evenly.

Step 8

Step 9

On top of the rice, place the thick-cut pan-fried ham. In the center, add one aburaage pouch from the inari sushi kit; this will absorb moisture and add umami. Then, arrange the pan-fried tofu slices on top.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, place the fully cooked fried egg on top of the other ingredients. A substantial fried egg makes the onigiri look even more appealing.

Step 10

Step 11

Carefully fold the sushi nori in half, enclosing the rice and fillings. Press down gently to seal the edges and create a firm shape.

Step 11

Step 12

Keeping the nori folded, slice the onigiri in half through the center. Since two pieces of ham were used, slicing it in half will give each piece one slice of ham. If you prefer smaller, bite-sized pieces, you can cut it into four portions, centering the cuts around the tofu.

Step 12

Step 13

And there you have it – simple and delicious Okinawa onigiri! The combination of mild tofu, rich egg, savory aburaage, and flavorful ham creates a wonderful taste. The ingredients’ natural flavors are enough to make it delicious without extra seasoning.

Step 13

Step 14

With tofu, ham, and egg included, this onigiri is very filling and makes for a complete meal on its own. Isn’t this super simple Okinawa onigiri wonderfully appealing?

Step 14

Step 15

Now, let’s make the spicy tuna mayo inari sushi. We’ve already prepared the rice and the spicy tuna mayo mixture. Fill each aburaage pouch with a good amount of seasoned rice, then top generously with the spicy tuna mayo mixture.

Step 15

Step 16

Finally, sprinkle some finely chopped green onions on top and add toasted sesame seeds for garnish. Your spicy tuna mayo inari sushi is complete and ready to be enjoyed alongside the Okinawa onigiri. Enjoy both!
