Homemade Strawberry Jam: A Foolproof Recipe for Sweetness

I received some wonderfully delicious Hadong strawberries and decided to make strawberry jam! Here’s my simple and reliable recipe for homemade jam.

Recipe Info

  • Category : Seasoning / Sauce / Jam
  • Ingredient Category : Fruits
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Braise
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Ingredients

  • 1 basket of strawberries (approx. 500g)
  • 2/3 paper cup of sugar (approx. 100g)
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, remove the green stems from the fresh strawberries. Gently rinse them under cool running water to wash away any dirt and pat them dry.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the washed strawberries in a bowl and mash them with your hands. It’s okay to leave some small chunks – they add a nice texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Check if the strawberries are mashed to your liking. This texture is perfect for moving on to the next step.

Step 3

Step 4

Add 2/3 paper cup of sugar (about 100g) to the mashed strawberries in a pot. Turn the heat to medium and stir continuously with a spatula as the sugar dissolves and mixes with the strawberries. Be careful not to let it burn.

Step 4

Step 5

As you cook, you’ll notice the liquid from the strawberries reducing, and the mixture will start to thicken like jam. Keep stirring until the watery consistency disappears and it becomes thick. When it’s almost at your desired consistency, stir in 3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.

Step 5

Step 6

Once you add the lemon juice, the jam will bubble up again. At this stage, you’ll see the jam becoming more softly set, almost clumpy. (You should see a fluffy texture like in the photo.)

Step 6

Step 7

The jam will start to take on its final form. Taste it and if you prefer it sweeter, you can add a little more sugar. Interestingly, homemade jam often uses less sugar than store-bought versions, which tend to be very sweet. (My method results in a jam that isn’t overly sweet, which I find quite pleasant.)

Step 7

Step 8

Once the jam reaches your desired consistency and sweetness, turn off the heat. Your delicious homemade strawberry jam is ready!

Step 8

Step 9

When transferring the jam to jars, make sure to sterilize the jars by boiling them in water. Let the jars cool completely before filling them with the jam. This prevents the glass from breaking.

Step 9

Step 10

Your homemade strawberry jam is now complete! Enjoy it spread on toast, with yogurt, or in any way you like.

Step 10
