Main Ingredients

  • 350g frozen dumplings (approx. 10-12 dumplings)
  • 500g store-bought beef bone broth (1 pack)
  • 1/2 green onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Korean chili peppers (optional, for added spiciness)

Seasoning & Broth

  • 2-3 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
  • 400ml water (for adjusting broth consistency)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Pour 1 pack (500g) of store-bought beef bone broth into a wide and deep pot. Add about 2 cups of water (400ml, measured by a paper cup) to adjust the broth’s consistency. This will ensure a smooth, not overly rich, flavor when cooked.

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare the delicious frozen dumplings that are essential for mandu guk. We’ll add the dumplings directly without thawing. You can adjust the number of dumplings according to your preference.

Step 2

Step 3

Crack 2 eggs into a small bowl. Finely chop 1/2 green onion and add it to the bowl. Whisk the eggs and green onion together with a fork or chopsticks until well combined. This helps the egg to cook evenly without clumping.

Step 3

Step 4

Place the pot with the beef bone broth over medium heat and bring it to a boil. Once the broth is vigorously boiling, carefully add the prepared frozen dumplings.

Step 4

Step 5

As the dumplings are added, the broth will start to boil again. At this point, add the finely chopped Korean chili peppers (if you prefer a spicy kick), 1 tsp of minced garlic, 2-3 pinches of salt, and a pinch of black pepper to season. Bring it to a boil once more to allow all the flavors to meld together.

Step 5

Step 6

Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the surface, indicating they are cooked. Once the dumplings float, gently pour the prepared egg mixture (with green onions) around the edges of the pot. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook undisturbed for 30-40 seconds until the egg begins to set softly. Then, gently stir with chopsticks to create soft ribbons of egg. Be careful not to stir too much, as this can break the egg into small pieces and make the broth appear cloudy.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, simmer for another 1-2 minutes, and your steaming hot and delicious beef bone broth mandu guk will be ready! Enjoy the warm broth and chewy dumplings together.
