Simple Abalone Porridge Using Frozen Abalone
Easy Abalone Porridge Recipe: How to Use Frozen Abalone, Hearty Healthy Meal for Breakfast
Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing a super easy abalone porridge recipe that anyone can follow. Since I had pre-portioned frozen abalone, I could make it even more conveniently. I’m currently doing a ‘fridge clean-out’ (Nang-pa), which is why I used frozen abalone, but fresh abalone will be delicious too, of course! This porridge is a hearty meal and a perfect restorative dish when you need a boost. Shall we make it together?
Ingredients- 2 frozen abalones (thawed)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A little chives (approx. 10g)
- 1 bowl of cooked rice (approx. 150g)
- 250ml water
- A little fish sauce (or salt/soy sauce for seasoning)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Thaw the abalone overnight in the refrigerator, then prepare it for cooking. Since I used pre-portioned frozen abalone, I cut it into bite-sized pieces (about 1cm) with scissors. If the abalone’s innards are already exposed, you can use them as is. Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a pot over medium-low heat, and stir-fry the abalone and its innards. You’ll know it’s ready when it starts to release a cooked abalone aroma.
Step 2
To save time, it’s best to use freshly cooked, warm rice. Soaking the rice beforehand will yield a smoother, tastier texture, but today we’re opting for the quick version! Even picky eaters will enjoy this simple preparation. Add the cooked rice and 250ml of water to the stir-fried abalone, and bring it to a boil over high heat.
Step 3
Once the porridge starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently. Cook for about 5-10 minutes, or until the rice grains break down and the porridge thickens. Finally, add the chopped chives and stir well. I seasoned mine with fish sauce, but you can also use sea salt or soy sauce for a delicious result. Adjust the seasoning to your preference and enjoy your flavorful abalone porridge!
