Ingredients- 200g Squid Jerky
- 15g Dried Radish Strips
- 2 Korean Green Peppers (Cheongyang chili)
- 1 Red Bell Pepper
- 1 Korean Cucumber Pepper (Oigochu)
- 2 stalks Green Onions
- 1/4 Onion
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The squid jerky is already seasoned and delicious on its own. When purchasing, it’s best to choose squid that is firm and plump for the best taste.
Step 2
Cut the squid jerky into bite-sized pieces. If they are too long, they can be difficult to eat and you might perceive the saltiness more. Use scissors or a knife to cut them into appropriate sizes.
Step 3
Dried radish strips were added to the seasoned squid jerky I tried at a restaurant, giving it a special texture. Today, we’ll use dried radish strips to enhance the crunchy texture.
Step 4
Rinse the dried radish strips thoroughly and then soak them in cold water until softened. This process removes the tough texture of the radish, making it softer, allowing it to absorb seasoning better, and improving its texture.
Step 5
Squeeze out the excess water from the soaked dried radish strips and chop them finely. Chopping them with a slight texture, rather than too finely, will help preserve the crispness.
Step 6
We’ll add plenty of fresh vegetables like green onions, peppers, and onions to enhance the flavor and texture of the dish.
Step 7
Prepare a variety of peppers for different colors and flavors: Cheongyang chili for heat, red bell pepper for color, and cucumber pepper for a milder taste. If you enjoy spicy food, be sure to include the Cheongyang chili. If you prefer less spice, you can use only the cucumber pepper. The red bell pepper is optional but adds a beautiful visual appeal.
Step 8
Thinly slice the green onions and onion. Finely mince fresh garlic as well. Minced garlic will add depth to the seasoning.
Step 9
Place all the prepared vegetables into a large bowl.
Step 10
Add the squeezed dried radish strips to the bowl as well.
Step 11
Add the squid jerky that has been cut into bite-sized pieces.
Step 12
It’s important to add a generous amount of the additional ingredients, almost equivalent to the amount of squid jerky. Drizzle generously with toasted sesame seeds and sesame oil for added nutty flavor, making it even more delicious.
Step 13
Gently mix all the ingredients together. Once mixed, your delicious seasoned squid jerky is ready! Tasting it, the saltiness from the squid jerky itself is sufficient, so no additional seasoning was needed. This also indicates that squid jerky is naturally quite salty.
Step 14
For fermented seafood dishes, it’s best to make small batches that you can consume relatively quickly, rather than making a large quantity at once. This ensures freshness and the best flavor. We recommend making small portions and eating them immediately.
Step 15
I absolutely love squid, so among all the fermented seafood options, squid jerky is my favorite because it doesn’t have any fishy taste and is packed with savory umami.
Step 16
With each bite, you’ll experience the spiciness of the seasoning, complemented by the pungent kick of Cheongyang chili and fresh garlic. The satisfying crunch of the dried radish strips adds to the enjoyment, and the nutty aroma of sesame oil provides a smooth finish – a perfect harmony.
