Tuna Steak Ingredients

  • 1 can (150g) tuna, drained
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/4 carrot
  • 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 0.2 Tbsp salt
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 2/3 cup breadcrumbs

Sauce Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp store-bought steak sauce
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey)
  • 4 Tbsp water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, drain the tuna from the can thoroughly using a sieve. Finely dice 1/2 onion and 1/4 carrot. Feel free to add any other vegetables you like, finely chopped, for extra flavor and nutrition.

Step 1

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, diced onion, and carrot. Add 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, 0.2 Tbsp salt, a pinch of black pepper, 2/3 cup breadcrumbs, and 1 egg. Mix gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the tuna mushy. You want the mixture to hold together well. (Note: I’ve used minimal salt as the steak sauce is already seasoned. Adjust to your child’s preference.)

Step 2

Step 3

Take portions of the mixture and shape them into small, flat patties, about the size of a small steak. If the mixture feels too loose and doesn’t hold its shape well, you can add another egg or a little more breadcrumbs to achieve a better consistency.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the shaped tuna steaks into the hot pan and cook until golden brown on both sides. Ensure they are cooked through to the center.

Step 4

Step 5

To make the sauce, combine 5 Tbsp steak sauce, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, and 4 Tbsp water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat and cook until the sauce thickens slightly. If this process seems too much, you can simply warm up your favorite store-bought steak sauce. (Alternatively, if you find this step too much trouble, simply use your favorite store-bought steak sauce.)

Step 5

Step 6

Serve the golden-brown tuna steaks topped with the prepared sauce. For an extra special meal, arrange them with some fresh vegetables and fruits. This makes for a wonderfully appealing home-party dish! Enjoy this nutritious and delicious tuna steak with your family.
