Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Avocado has become an indispensable part of our modern diet, hasn’t it? While it has a large seed, surprisingly, avocados belong to the berry family. They are particularly loved by those interested in health and dieting. But is ripening avocados really that difficult? Here are some foolproof tips! Many people try various methods to ripen avocados, but in reality, if you buy a good quality avocado, it will naturally ripen beautifully without any special techniques. I’ve always bought avocados that ripened well, so I found it hard to understand why people struggle with ripening. However, I did have one failure. I once bought avocados very cheaply – 4 for 5,000 won on the street. They looked fine, but as soon as I put them on the counter at room temperature, all four spoiled simultaneously. When I cut them open, the flesh wasn’t soft at all; instead, it was tangled with tough, fibrous cores, much like dry sweet potato roots. This means they were poor quality avocados from the start. I realized then that if avocados are priced so unreasonably low, like 4 for 5,000 won when they normally cost 2,000-3,000 won each, you should be suspicious. Based on my experience, if you purchase good quality avocados from a reliable source, they will ripen fresh regardless of whether you leave them on the counter, put them in a bag, or anywhere else. Before that one failure, I thought all avocados ripened this easily. Since you can’t see inside, it can feel like a gamble, but the best approach is to buy from a trustworthy seller.

Step 1

Step 2

A perfectly ripe avocado is incredibly easy to cut in half. Simply insert your knife towards the center and gently twist to separate it cleanly. Removing the pit is also very simple: you can either carefully stab the side of the pit with your knife blade and twist, or hold the avocado half and gently twist; a gap will form between the flesh and the pit, allowing it to slide out easily. Once the pit is removed, you can scoop out the flesh with a spoon for a clean finish. While some countries where avocados are commonly eaten have special avocado knives, a regular kitchen knife works perfectly well and makes preparation very easy.

Step 2

Step 3

One avocado contains about 300 calories, similar to a bowl of rice. However, most of the fat in avocados consists of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, which are believed to help reduce belly fat. This is why many dieters enthusiastically incorporate avocados into salads and sandwiches. Research suggests that avocados can increase feelings of fullness and reduce appetite. It’s good to remember that the recommended daily intake is about 1/5 of an avocado.

Step 4

Popular avocado recipes include guacamole, a traditional Mexican sauce, and avocado and pollack roe bibimbap, a beloved Korean rice dish. There are many other delicious ways to enjoy avocados.
