- Dried seaweed 20g
- Sesame oil 2 Tbsp
- Soy sauce for soup 4 Tbsp
- Fish sauce 2 Tbsp
- Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
- Water 2L
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients for your delicious beef and seaweed soup. Fresh ingredients are the foundation of great taste.
Step 2
Take 20g of dried seaweed and soak it in clean water for about 30 minutes until it’s fully rehydrated and soft. Be patient as it plumps up.
Step 3
While the seaweed is soaking, pat the beef for soup dry with paper towels to remove any excess blood. This step ensures a clean and clear broth.
Step 4
Rinse the rehydrated seaweed thoroughly under running cold water multiple times. Make sure to wash it well to remove any sand or debris, capturing the freshness of the sea.
Step 5
Squeeze out as much water as possible from the clean seaweed by hand, then cut it into bite-sized pieces with scissors. Cutting it into manageable pieces makes it easier for everyone to enjoy.
Step 6
Now, let’s start stir-frying. Add 2 tablespoons of sesame oil to a pot. The fragrant aroma of sesame oil will enhance the flavor.
Step 7
Add the prepared beef to the pot and stir-fry over medium-high heat until the surface of the beef turns brown and is cooked through. Searing the beef develops its flavor.
Step 8
Once the beef is nicely browned, get ready to add the seaweed. Allow the beef’s rich flavor to meld with the seaweed for a moment.
Step 9
Add the cut seaweed to the pot and stir-fry it with the beef. Continue stir-frying until the seaweed wilts and releases a savory aroma. This step is crucial for developing flavor.
Step 10
To season the seaweed and beef, add 4 tablespoons of soy sauce for soup and stir-fry them together. Pre-seasoning during the stir-fry stage infuses the ingredients with umami.
Step 11
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry it with the beef and seaweed until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 12
Pour in about 2 liters of water. I used a generous amount of water because I prefer a deeply simmered, richer soup. The longer it simmers, the more intense the flavor becomes.
Step 13
As the soup comes to a boil, skim off any foam that rises to the surface using a spoon. This step is essential for a clean and clear broth.
Step 14
Add 2 tablespoons of fish sauce to further enhance the umami and depth of the soup. Using fish sauce will give the soup a rich and refreshing taste.
Step 15
Now, cover the pot and let it simmer gently over low heat until the flavors have melded beautifully – your delicious beef and seaweed soup is ready! Seaweed soup tastes even better when simmered longer, so allow it to cook to achieve a rich, profound flavor.
