Sweet Soy Sauce Stir-fried Fish Cakes for Kids
Savory Soy Sauce Fish Cakes: A Family-Friendly Alternative to Spicy Dishes
This recipe for soy sauce-stir-fried fish cakes is perfect for children who can’t handle spicy food. It’s a delicious and mild dish that everyone in the family can enjoy.
Main Ingredients- 10 pieces of fish cake (eomuk)
- 1/4 onion
- A small amount of carrot
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Heat 2 tsp of perilla oil in a wide, shallow pan (gungjung-pan). Add the fish cakes, sliced diagonally into bite-sized pieces, along with the thinly sliced onion (1/4) and a small amount of julienned carrot. The nutty aroma of perilla oil will add a wonderful depth of flavor.
Step 2
Begin by stir-frying over high heat until the fish cakes turn golden brown and the onions and carrots soften slightly. Sprinkle in a pinch of black pepper to eliminate any fishy odors and enhance the overall taste. Once the fish cakes are nicely browned, reduce the heat to medium. Browning the fish cakes well not only improves their texture but also concentrates their natural sweetness, making them taste even better.
Step 3
While maintaining medium heat, add 3 tsp of soy sauce to the pan and stir-fry quickly to ensure the soy sauce evenly coats and flavors the ingredients, about 1 minute. Once the soy sauce has been incorporated, turn off the heat. Stir in 3 tsp of oligosaccharide for a glossy finish and added sweetness. Finally, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and flavor. This dish is delicious served immediately or after it has cooled slightly.
