Main Ingredients

  • 3 frankfurter sausages
  • 1/2 onion

Currywurst Sauce

  • 4 Tbsp tomato pasta sauce
  • 1.5 Tbsp hot curry powder
  • 0.5 Tbsp chili powder (gochugaru)
  • 1 tsp oligosaccharide (or honey/sugar)
  • 3 Tbsp water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Score the frankfurter sausages diagonally on both sides about every 2-3 cm. Be careful not to cut too deep. This helps prevent the casing from bursting during cooking and allows heat to penetrate for even cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

Onions are a wonderful addition that pairs beautifully with currywurst. Slice them into small pieces, similar to the size you’d use for fried rice. (If you prefer not to have the sweetness of onions or find this step too much, feel free to skip it.)

Step 2

Step 3

Let’s make the delicious currywurst sauce! In a bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of tomato pasta sauce, 1.5 tablespoons of hot curry powder, 0.5 tablespoon of chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of oligosaccharide for a touch of sweetness. Whisk everything together until well combined.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s get to cooking. Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the onions are softened and translucent, push them to one side of the pan. Add the scored frankfurter sausages to the empty space and cook until they are nicely browned and slightly crispy on all sides.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour the prepared currywurst sauce into a small saucepan. Heat it gently over low heat until it simmers. Stir in 3 tablespoons of water to achieve the desired consistency, and continue to simmer briefly. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent the sauce from sticking to the bottom.

Step 6

Step 7

Time to assemble your masterpiece! Arrange the hot, browned sausages and sautéed onions on a plate. Generously spoon the warm currywurst sauce over them. For an extra kick, sprinkle a little more curry powder on top. Your incredibly delicious, beer-stealing Currywurst is ready to be enjoyed!
