Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello! Today, we’re going to make Tteokkochi, a nostalgic snack loved by both kids and adults. The chewy rice cakes combined with the sweet and savory sauce are absolutely delicious.

Step 1

Step 2

First, prepare your Tteokbokki rice cakes. If they are frozen, let them thaw at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes until they become soft and pliable. Once softened, carefully thread 5 rice cakes onto each skewer. Leaving a little space between the cakes on the skewer will make them easier to cook.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time to cook the rice cakes. Heat 1 teaspoon of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Place the skewered rice cakes in the pan and pan-fry them, flipping them occasionally, until they are golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside. Frying them like this will make the exterior extra crunchy and appealing.

Step 3

Step 4

While the rice cakes are cooking, let’s make the delicious sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon of Gochujang, 1/2 teaspoon of Gochugaru, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of soy sauce. Mix them well. You’ll have a perfectly balanced sauce with a delightful combination of sweetness, spiciness, and saltiness.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the rice cakes are nicely browned, generously brush them with the prepared sauce. Make sure to coat all sides of the rice cakes evenly. A small brush works best for this. After applying the sauce, cook for another 1-2 minutes over low heat. This will help the sauce meld with the rice cakes without burning, adding a wonderful depth of flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

And there you have it! Your delicious Tteokkochi is ready – crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and wonderfully sweet and savory. It’s incredibly simple to make, but the taste is exceptional. Enjoy them right away while they’re warm!
