Recipe Info

  • Category : Bread
  • Ingredient Category : Vegetables
  • Occasion : Lunchbox
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 3 slices of bread
  • 1 egg
  • 3-4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 slice of cheddar cheese
  • 5-6 cherry tomatoes (or regular tomatoes)
  • 1/3 onion
  • 3 slices of deli ham
  • 1/2 tbsp butter
  • A little cooking oil

Special Sandwich Sauce

  • 2.5 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp honey mustard
  • 1/2 tbsp ketchup

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Tip: You can substitute regular tomatoes for cherry tomatoes or use regular lettuce instead of iceberg. Feel free to customize the ingredients to create your own unique club sandwich!

Step 1

Step 2

Thinly slice the onion into rings. Soak the sliced onions in cold water for about 5 minutes to remove their sharp, pungent flavor. Afterward, pat them completely dry with paper towels to prevent the sandwich from becoming soggy.

Step 2

Step 3

Wash the lettuce leaves and soak them in water for a short while. Then, trim them to the size of your bread slices. Gently pat them dry with paper towels to ensure they remain crisp and don’t make the sandwich wet.

Step 3

Step 4

Remove the stems from the cherry tomatoes, wash them, and cut them in half for easy eating. If you’re using regular tomatoes, cutting them into 3-4 wedges would also work well.

Step 4

Step 5

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, honey mustard, and ketchup. Whisk them together with a whisk or fork until smooth and well incorporated, creating a delicious sandwich sauce. Making this ahead of time can save you time.

Step 5

Step 6

Melt the butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the bread slices and toast them until golden brown and lightly crisp on both sides. Be careful not to burn the bread; adjust the heat as needed for an even golden color.

Step 6

Step 7

Once toasted, don’t lay the bread slices flat immediately. Instead, prop them up vertically (perhaps against a small object or each other) to help maintain their crispness. This prevents them from becoming soft and soggy as steam escapes.

Step 7

Step 8

In the same pan, add a little cooking oil and crack an egg into it to make a sunny-side-up fried egg, aiming for a runny yolk. Lightly grill the sliced ham in the pan as well to enhance its flavor.

Step 8

Step 9

Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper on your cutting board. Spread a thin layer of the prepared sandwich sauce onto one side of the first bread slice, then place it onto the wrap.

Step 9

Step 10

On top of the sauced bread, arrange 3 lettuce leaves, the sliced onion, and the halved cherry tomatoes attractively. Next, spread sauce on one side of the second bread slice and carefully place it, sauce-side down, onto the toppings.

Step 10

Step 11

On top of the second bread slice, add the cheddar cheese, grilled ham, the sunny-side-up egg, and the remaining lettuce leaves, creating a generously layered sandwich.

Step 11

Step 12

Finally, spread a good amount of sandwich sauce onto one side of the third bread slice. Carefully place this slice on top to complete the sandwich layers.

Step 12

Step 13

Gently press down on the sandwich with your hands to compact the layers and help it hold its shape. Then, use the plastic wrap or parchment paper to tightly wrap the entire sandwich. This will keep everything together when you slice it.

Step 13

Step 14

Rotate the wrapped sandwich so it’s positioned horizontally. Using a sharp knife, carefully slice through the center of the sandwich to reveal the beautifully layered classic club sandwich! Enjoy your delicious creation.
