Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup walnuts (approx. 50g)
  • 1 medium apple
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 2 leaves lettuce

Tangy Dressing

  • 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp honey or corn syrup
  • 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the walnuts. Heat a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Add the walnuts and toast them for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Toasting enhances their nutty aroma and makes them crispier. Let the toasted walnuts cool slightly.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, prepare the apple. Wash the apple thoroughly, remove the core, and dice it into approximately 1.5cm cubes. Leaving the peel on adds color and texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Slice the celery similarly to the apple. You can lightly peel the outer strings of the celery stalk or scrape them with a peeler if they seem fibrous. Then, slice it into about 1cm thick half-moons or dice it. This will add a delightful crunch.

Step 3

Step 4

Wash the lettuce leaves under running water and gently pat them dry. Tear them into bite-sized pieces. Tearing, rather than cutting, helps keep the lettuce fresh and allows the dressing to adhere better.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the cooled, toasted walnuts on a cutting board. Coarsely chop them with a knife. Aim for a texture that you can enjoy with each bite, rather than finely mincing them.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, let’s make the delicious dressing. In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of honey (or corn syrup), and 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix well. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper to taste. Feel free to adjust the ingredients according to your preference.

Step 6

Step 7

In a large salad bowl, add the diced apple, sliced celery, and chopped walnuts. Pour the prepared dressing over the ingredients. Gently toss everything together until all components are evenly coated with the dressing. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the apple mushy.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, arrange the torn lettuce leaves on a serving plate or in a salad bowl. Spoon the dressed salad mixture on top. Your nutritious and flavorful Waldorf Salad is ready! For an extra touch, you can add cheese or dried fruits.
