  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Bar food
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Ingredients

  • 1 can (300g) whelk
  • 10 cloves garlic (or 1 Tbsp minced garlic)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/4 zucchini
  • 4 button mushrooms
  • 1 chili pepper (e.g., Cheongyang pepper, adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your vegetables. Mince or thinly slice the garlic. Slice the onion and zucchini into bite-sized pieces. Slice the button mushrooms. Finely chop the chili pepper, removing seeds if you prefer less heat. Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers or green onions to your liking.

Step 1

Step 2

Drain the canned whelk thoroughly using a sieve, discarding the liquid. You can lightly rinse them under running water. Cut the whelks into bite-sized pieces that are easy to eat.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat about 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over low heat. Add the minced or sliced garlic and sauté gently for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. You want to infuse the oil with the garlic’s aroma without burning it.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden, add the sliced onion, zucchini, and mushrooms to the pan. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and black pepper to season the vegetables.

Step 4

Step 5

Sauté the vegetables until they begin to soften, about 2-3 minutes. Then, add the prepared whelks to the pan. Stir-fry everything together for about 1 minute, allowing the flavors to meld. Be careful not to overcook the whelks, as they can become tough.

Step 5

Step 6

Now it’s time to add the richness! Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan. Let the butter melt and coat all the ingredients, stirring gently until well combined. The butter will add a wonderful, savory depth to the dish.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce for an extra layer of umami. Stir everything together quickly for another 30 seconds to ensure the sauce is evenly distributed. Your delicious butter-sautéed whelk is ready to serve! Enjoy it while it’s warm.
