Psyllium Husk Apple Banana Smoothie for a Healthy Gut
Psyllium Husk Apple Banana Smoothie
Introducing a delightful and healthy Psyllium Husk Apple Banana Smoothie, designed to make you feel lighter and healthier! Psyllium husk, derived from the outer shell of the Plantago ovata seed, is packed with fiber that aids in digestion and promotes regular bowel movements. When it meets water, it swells up, increasing satiety and helping to cleanse the digestive tract. It contains both soluble fiber, which absorbs waste and thickens stool, and insoluble fiber, which absorbs water to add bulk and relieve constipation. Recommended daily intake is 5-25g. To avoid digestive discomfort, it’s best to consume it at least 3-4 hours before bedtime. Individuals with kidney issues or chronic kidney disease should consult a healthcare professional before consumption. Its cooling nature means overconsumption can lead to stomach discomfort or diarrhea. This recipe perfectly balances the crispness of apples, the sweetness of bananas, and the tang of apple cider vinegar for a delicious and nutritious treat.
Smoothie Ingredients- 1/2 Apple
- 1/2 Banana
- 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- 70ml Water
- 7-8 Ice Cubes
- 2 Tbsp Psyllium Husk Powder
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for your smoothie. If you don’t have psyllium husk powder, you can use psyllium husk capsules. If using capsules, use the same quantity as you would for the powder.
Step 2
Since we’re using the apple with its skin on, ensure it’s thoroughly washed. Cut the apple into approximately 2-3 cm pieces so it blends easily in the mixer.
Step 3
Peel the banana and slice it into round pieces, about 2 cm thick, similar in size to the apple pieces. Cutting them too small might prevent them from blending smoothly.
Step 4
Add the chopped half apple, half banana, 70ml of fresh water, 7-8 ice cubes, and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into the blender. Using a sufficient amount of liquid and ice is key to achieving a smooth, creamy smoothie texture.
Step 5
Secure the lid on the blender and blend for about 1 minute, or until the ice cubes are completely crushed into a fine slush. Ensure there are no large chunks remaining for the best consistency.
Step 6
Finally, add the 2 tablespoons of psyllium husk powder, the star ingredient for your health boost. Psyllium husk absorbs liquid, so avoid over-blending, which can make the smoothie too thick. Blend for just about 10-20 seconds after adding the psyllium husk powder, just long enough to incorporate it evenly with the other ingredients.
