  • Category : Stew
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods

  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1/3 stalk Green onion
  • 1 Serrano pepper
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/3 can Spam or diet ham
  • 3 Sausages
  • 1 pack Spicy Cup Noodles
  • 1/2 slice Cheddar cheese
  • Parsley or pepper, a pinch (for garnish)

Seasoning

  • 1 tsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tsp Olive oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables and ham that will add flavor to your Budae Jjigae. Chop the green onion into large pieces and thinly slice the onion. Finely chop the Serrano pepper to add some heat. Slice the Spam (or diet ham) into bite-sized pieces, and cut the sausages diagonally.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s start sautéing. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil to a pot and heat it over low heat.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the oil is warm, add the chopped green onions and sliced onions. Sauté them over medium-low heat until they become translucent, allowing their fragrance to release. This step helps bring out the natural sweetness of the vegetables, deepening the broth’s flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

When the vegetables are lightly sautéed, add 1 teaspoon of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) and stir briefly, being careful not to burn it. This will release the aroma of chili oil and enhance the flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Now it’s time to add water. Pour water into the pot up to the fill line indicated on the Cup Noodles packaging. Adjusting the water according to the Cup Noodles portion makes it easier to achieve the right broth consistency.

Step 5

Step 6

Add all the dried vegetable flakes from the Cup Noodles packet. For the powder soup base, add only half to control the richness and saltiness. If you prefer it spicier, you can adjust the amount of soup base or add a little more water.

Step 6

Step 7

Arrange the prepared Spam (or diet ham) and sausages attractively in the pot. As the ham and sausages cook, they will release their delicious flavors into the broth, giving it that classic Budae Jjigae taste.

Step 7

Step 8

Once the broth comes to a boil, add the Cup Noodles. Gently stir to separate the noodles as they cook. Cup Noodles cook very quickly, so be careful to prevent them from sticking together.

Step 8

Step 9

When the noodles are almost cooked, add the chopped Serrano pepper and let it simmer for a moment longer. The spicy aroma will infuse the entire broth, making it even more delicious.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, just before turning off the heat, place half a slice of cheddar cheese on top to add a creamy richness. Garnish with a pinch of parsley or pepper, according to your preference. Serve immediately while hot for the best flavor!
