Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups rice (rinsed thoroughly)
  • 100g bean sprouts (clean the ends and remove any blemishes)
  • 110g Korean radish (daikon radish, washed and thinly julienned)
  • 1/4 carrot (washed and thinly julienned)
  • 100g ground beef (unseasoned)
  • 2 cups water (adjust based on rice type and quantity)

Flavorful Seasoning Sauce

  • 6 Tbsp soy sauce (adjust to your preference)
  • 2 Tbsp chopped green onion (adds a fresh aroma)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic (enhances the pungent flavor)
  • 1 Cheongyang pepper (or similar spicy chili, finely chopped, remove seeds if you prefer less heat)
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, for color and mild spice)
  • 1 tsp sugar (balances the flavors)
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (for nutty aroma)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil (for a finishing touch of fragrance)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the rice thoroughly and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Place the soaked rice into the inner pot of your electric rice cooker. Layer the thinly julienned radish and carrot over the rice. Next, evenly spread the ground beef on top, and finally, generously add the cleaned bean sprouts. Pour in 2 cups of water, which is the same amount as the rice, and press the ‘White Rice’ or ‘Mixed Grains’ cooking button. (Adjust the water amount depending on the type and soaking time of your rice.)

Step 1

Step 2

While the rice is cooking, let’s prepare the delicious seasoning sauce. In a small bowl, combine 6 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of chopped green onion, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 finely chopped Cheongyang pepper (seeds removed if desired for less spice), 1 tablespoon of gochugaru, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame seeds, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix everything well until thoroughly combined. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning to your liking for the perfect flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the rice is cooked, open the lid immediately without letting it rest. Using a rice paddle, gently fluff the rice from the bottom up to avoid mashing the grains. Transfer the beautifully cooked Kongnamulbap to a bowl. Serve with the prepared seasoning sauce on the side, and mix it in as you eat for a truly delicious experience. Enjoy with kimchi or other side dishes according to your preference!
