Transform Stale Bread Ends into Delicious Rusks!
Don’t throw away those leftover bread crusts and ends! Gather them from the freezer and transform them into delightful, crunchy rusks with this easy recipe. Perfect as a snack for kids or a delightful accompaniment to your coffee or tea.
Ingredients- 4 slices of bread (or crusts/ends)
- 4 Tbsp butter (approx. 60g)
- 2 Tbsp sugar (approx. 30g)
- 0.5 Tbsp dried parsley flakes (optional, adds a nice touch)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
If your bread slices have been frozen, let them sit at room temperature for a little while to thaw slightly. This makes them easier to cut.
Step 2
Melt the 4 tablespoons of butter by microwaving it for about 30 seconds until fully liquid. Be careful not to overheat it.
Step 3
In the melted butter, add the 2 tablespoons of sugar and the 0.5 tablespoon of parsley flakes (if using). Stir well until combined, creating a sweet butter mixture.
Step 4
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the bread slices side-by-side, ensuring they are close together. Then, brush the tops of the bread slices evenly with the sweet butter mixture you prepared.
Step 5
After brushing with butter, separate the bread slices slightly so there’s a small gap between each one. This ensures they bake up evenly and become crispy.
Step 6
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for approximately 8 to 10 minutes. Bake until the rusks turn a nice golden brown color.
Step 7
Be extra watchful as the sugar can cause the rusks to burn quickly. It’s best to keep an eye on them in the oven during the last few minutes of baking. Remove them as soon as they reach a beautiful golden hue!
