Rice Ball Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice, warm
  • 150g ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil

Spicy & Sweet Yangnyeom Gochujang

  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 Tbsp cheongju (rice wine) or mirin
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp oligo당 (oligodang) or corn syrup
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 150g of ground beef and stir-fry, breaking it apart, until it’s no longer pink and the moisture has evaporated.

To the cooked beef, add all the ingredients for the Yangnyeom Gochujang: 1 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds, 1 Tbsp cheongju, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 tsp oligo당, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Stir well and simmer over low heat for about 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef beautifully, creating a flavorful Yangnyeom Gochujang. Set aside and stir in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil, ready to mix with rice.

In a bowl, combine 2 cups of warm cooked rice with 1-2 Tbsp of the prepared Yangnyeom Gochujang mixture. Gently mix the rice and the filling using a spatula or your hands, ensuring it’s well combined and fragrant with sesame oil. Adjust the amount of gochujang to your preference.

Fill a triangle rice mold halfway with the seasoned rice. Use the back of a spoon or your finger to gently press down in the center, creating a small well for the filling. Be careful not to press too hard, which can make the rice mushy.

Spoon 1-2 tsp of the remaining Yangnyeom Gochujang filling into the well you created in the rice. You can adjust the amount based on how much filling you’d like.

Top with the remaining seasoned rice, filling the mold completely. Close the lid and press down firmly on the top and bottom to shape the triangle. Carefully remove the molded rice from the triangle form.
