Creative Ways to Use Cold or Leftover Gim Bap

Easy Gim Bap Jeon (Korean Rolled Omelette)

On days when groceries are scarce, I gather whatever ingredients I have to make Gim Bap and then transform it into a delicious Gim Bap Jeon (pan-fried Gim Bap). This is a great way to use up leftover Gim Bap from the fridge or even convenience store Gim Bap that my son sometimes brings home. Don’t let your leftover Gim Bap go to waste – give this recipe a try!

Recipe Info

  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Rice
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Pan-fry
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • Gim Bap, about 5 rolls (cold or leftover)
  • 4 eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of sesame seeds
  • Olive oil or cooking oil, as needed

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, slice the Gim Bap into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 to 2 cm thick. Handle them gently to prevent the rice from falling apart. If they are too thin, they might break apart when cooked, so aim for a consistent thickness.

Step 1

Step 2

In a wide bowl, crack the 4 eggs. Add a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flavor. Whisk the eggs with chopsticks or a whisk until well combined and the strands of egg white are broken up. This ensures the egg batter coats the Gim Bap evenly.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of olive oil (or cooking oil). Dip each slice of Gim Bap into the beaten egg, ensuring it’s well coated. Place the egg-coated Gim Bap slices in the hot pan and fry until golden brown on both sides. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until a beautiful golden-brown color is achieved. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.

Step 3

Step 4

Your crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside Gim Bap Jeon is ready! It’s best enjoyed warm. Serve it with some kimchi for a delightful flavor combination. This is a fantastic and satisfying dish that works perfectly as a simple meal or a tasty snack for kids!
