Main Ingredients

  • 150g soft tteokbokki rice cakes
  • Generous amount of cooking oil
  • A sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds
  • A pinch of chopped scallions

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the tteokbokki rice cakes in cold water and drain them. If the rice cakes are hard, briefly blanch them in boiling water until soft. Place the softened rice cakes in a bowl. Add the gochugaru, dried shiitake mushroom powder, soy sauce, fish sauce, minced garlic, oligosaccharide, and sesame oil. Mix everything together gently with your hands, ensuring the seasoning is evenly coated on the rice cakes. Marinating them beforehand will make them even more flavorful when stir-fried.

Step 2

Here’s a little secret tip from the owner of a famous oil tteokbokki stall in Tongin Market! They mentioned using a special seasoned soy sauce made with 8 ingredients. But don’t worry! If you follow this recipe and make the seasoning well, you can create incredibly delicious oil tteokbokki.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the marinated rice cakes to the pan. Stir-fry them, being careful not to burn them. Keep stirring occasionally to ensure the rice cakes don’t stick to the pan and get nicely golden brown. The key is to achieve a slightly crispy exterior with a chewy interior.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the rice cakes are sufficiently stir-fried, sprinkle in toasted sesame seeds for nutty flavor and add chopped scallions for a fresh aroma. If you prefer a stronger scallion flavor, you can heat the oil in the pan first, sauté the chopped scallions to create scallion-infused oil, and then stir-fry the rice cakes in it. This is also a delicious option! Adjust to your preference. Your delicious gochugaru oil tteokbokki is now ready!
